The Puerto Rico Resilience Project (PRRP) is an effective action plan bringing together grassroots leaders, environmental organizations, academic institutions, and government agencies to advance cultural and ecological resilience and a new economy of outdoors recreation through a nationwide, citizen-driven movement of Promotores Verdes.

The Puerto Rico Resilience Fund and The Guagua Solidaria is 24 months, 200 food projects, primarily benefiting farmers and the communities that are served by them while at the same time advancing the restoration and protection of the natural resources and ecosystems that are critical for long-term food security of rural and urban communities in Puerto Rico. In its first year, the Guagua concentrated on immediate relief efforts powered by a core staff of five members and volunteer brigades that were often foreign and not Puerto Rican based.

Guagua Solidaria 2.0 (Recuperación Agrícola)
November 2018 - April 2020
After a first year audit of vision and impact, AFC+A reconfigures the structure of the brigades to include only one core staff -rather than five- and subcontract professional staff for the specific needs of each farm. Brigades’ volunteers are recruited from open convocation in each municipality and near region advancing in the process AFC+A’s Promotores Verdes program. Phase two reduces the cost of each brigade by 75% and considerably increases the rate of response to the farm and the quality of service/professionalism and support given to the farmer. This phase also builds more capacity for Puerto Rican’ paid volunteer worker force.
La Guagua Solidaria has entered a second year we are calling Guagua Solidaria 2.0 which continues with those elements that proved most impactful for the farmer (short brigade format and professional technical offerings) and dismisses those that were a burden to the campaign and undermined the benefits to the farmer (large staff & non professional technical support, long brigade format).
How the Guagua Solidaria will work?

The Guagua Solidaria will work for 24 months, beginning the last week of November (accessible online).

The individual farm needs and location will be taken into account while planning the schedule.

The schedule will include the volunteers and resources needed that week.

The volunteers will detail their skills, and will sign up for a particular brigade/farm (accessible online)
